Pretzel & Stouffer Wins Not-Guilty Verdict for Physician in Shoulder Dystocia Case

Pretzel & Stouffer attorneys successfully defended an obstetrician-gynecologist against a recent malpractice suit. The case involved a delivery where the infant’s shoulders became stuck behind the pubic bone. The plaintiff claimed that the defendant physician used improper maneuvers to release the shoulder and deliver the child, resulting in an injury to the child’s brachial plexus nerves and permanent disabilities to one arm. The plaintiff sought more than $2 million at trial, but a jury issued a verdict in favor of the physician and his practice group.
