Attorney Bio

Peter is a member of the firm’s Insurance Coverage and Appellate Group. He regularly argues dispositive motions and tries cases to the bench as part of his trial practice. As part of his appellate practice, Peter has argued in the Illinois Appellate Court, and has briefed many appeals there, as well as in the Illinois Supreme Court, and in the Seventh Circuit. Before joining Pretzel, Peter clerked for Illinois Appellate Judge Robert Gordon, where he prepared opinions and orders in more than 100 appeals. He has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer Magazine Rising Star for the past 5 years, an honor of which less than 5% of the attorneys in Illinois receive.

Peter has experience in CGL policy work, particularly in the context of construction litigation, dealing with additional insured status under CGL policies issued to subcontractors on major construction projects where catastrophic personal injury occurred. He also has experience litigating coverage disputes under professional liability policies for an insurer client and have been involved in several rescission suits. He is experienced in litigating coverage issues arising out of agribusiness, i.e., allegations of “pollution” from confined feeding operations as well as business interruption where a major supplier of animal feed allegedly neglected to add vitamin d supplement to animal feed causing rickets and death in $12 million worth of livestock. He has experience in management liability coverage work and was involved in a coverage suit in the Northern District of Illinois, now in the Seventh Circuit, filed by an insurer client against the operator of an ambulance service arising out of sexual harassment claims. He also has experience in personal and commercial auto policy work.

Peter lives with his wife and two daughters in Western Springs, IL, and is very involved with his community. He also devotes significant time to several bar organizations and sits on the judicial evaluation committee for the Alliance of Bar Organizations and serves as an Investigator for applicants to the bench.
