Attorney Bio

Phil is an associate in the firm’s Insurance Coverage and Appellate Group where he concentrates his practice in insurance coverage litigation. He represents insurance carriers in disputes involving a broad range of policy types including commercial general liability, workers’ compensation, directors and officers, and auto liability policies. He handles all phases of the litigation process and has achieved success in both state and federal courts.

Phil’s experience in civil appellate litigation includes preparing briefs involving insurance coverage and procedural matters and has successfully argued cases before the Illinois Appellate Court. Phil also prepared the Brief of Appellant in which the Supreme Court agreed with the Appellant’s position that Illinois’s statutory accountant’s privilege extends to the accountant and not the client. Illinois is now one of the few states that hold this privilege belongs to the accountant rather than the client.

Before joining Pretzel & Stouffer, Phil served as a law clerk for Justice Robert E. Gordon in the Illinois Appellate Court, 1st District, where he drafted appellate opinions and Illinois Supreme Court Rule 23 orders.
