Rick has guided his clients in state and federal jurisdictions through all phases of litigation, from pre-suit discovery through trial and, on occasion, appeal. His clients include domestic, foreign and multinational businesses, as well as individuals.
Rick spends a significant portion of his practice defending clients against product liability claims. He has represented a variety of clients in these matters, including designers, manufacturers and distributors of industrial machinery, electrical equipment, and exercise and fitness equipment. He has experience defending clients in lawsuits that allege chemical, material, mechanical, electrical, and electronic design and manufacturing defects; claims of inadequate warnings; and breach of warranties.
In addition, Rick represents a wide range of clients in premises liability claims; suits involving construction site, workplace or vehicular accidents; and commercial litigation, including defense against claims of fraud, intentional interference, breach of contract, usurpation of corporate opportunities and breach of fiduciary duty. Rick has also defended accountants, attorneys and medical professionals, among others, against professional negligence and malpractice claims.
Recognized for his expertise in preparing and cross-examining expert witnesses, Rick has been asked to speak on several occasions on these topics to the professional staff of Packer Engineering Inc., a renowned forensic engineering firm. Rick also occasionally serves as an arbitrator for the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration system.
While in college at the University of Illinois, Rick was a volunteer football coach for the Champaign Central High School freshman football team. In his spare time, Rick is active at his health club and enjoys hiking and trail bike riding, benefitting from the knowledge he gained during his undergraduate studies in kinesiology and bioscience.
